I have an '04 SD PSD and I like to leave the doors open after I wash the truck to listen to the stereo while drying it off. The ringing from the key being in the ignition drives me crazy. Can anyone tell me how to disconnect this without affecting anything else.
This mod has been posted many times, but here ya go:
Turn ignition to RUN
(do not start), insert prodding tool in hole under ignition and press the small ball/detent while pulling on ignition cylinder - ignition cylinder will come out. (do NOT remove the key!!) Look closely at the removed cylinder and find the small brass contact. You can wrap a bit of tape around it or simply pull it off.
Reinsert ignition cylinder; it will click into place. Alternate method is to cut the black with pink tracer wire that runs up to the ignition cylinder.
I have the '06 F250 SDlKR Fx4 and the wire is now attached to the top of the key cylinder bracket, part of the steering wheel housing.
The Blk/red tracker wire has its' own clip that attaches to the bracket where the cylinder slides in. Just dettach it and set it in the column hole there.
Works like a charm w/ no more Ding, doing, ding . . .
