With gas prices at an all time high, I'd like to save every drop of fuel. When I start to add fuel at the pumps, it starts to splash out. I checked the hoses and there are no "kinks" in the line. It's a pretty much straight shot to the tank. However, I squeezed the hose that leads into the tank and I felt something in there.... I was wondering if that thing in the hose is there to prevent theives from sucking out the gas. Does anyone know what that thing is and has anyone had this problem????
The large filler hose has a small hose inside of it that the gas flows through into the tank. Then the air is "SUPPOSED" to vent back up the large hose, around the smaller one, and escape through the small slot in top of the metal plate inside the filler neck. As we all know this does not work very well.
I know it's a diesel site but about halfway down is an article "High Speed Filler Necks for $40.00". This is what I did to my Bronco and F250 and now I can fill up with the pump running wide open all the way to the top before it kicks off, even with the big diesel pumps. Not a hard modification to do and well worth it in my opinion.
