I'm not sure about that, I know my 04 is direct with no axle disconect system of anykind, and I believe that started in 01. It's a great system as far as dependability, the down side, parts are allways moving. It's like driving around with your hubs allways locked in. The avm hubs were designed for the pulse system on the 98-2000 ranger. My guess is no, but don't quote me on it. If we did have locking hubs, then our system would be as good as the old system of the 70's, loc, and load, minus the manual t-case shifter of course. If someone would develope locking hubs and a manual t-case shifter for our rangers we would have a sweet system. The fx4 level 2 had the manual shifter, but you have to swap out the whole t-case to use it.
