Towing and Wheelbase......

Looking for opinions. Right now I have an 86 F350 crew cab long bed. The long wheelbase is great for towing. It is much more stable than the Tahoe I used to tow with. Im lookin to buy a new truck but I its not a work truck.....its a commuter, haul for my property and occaisional towing. I'll prabaly get a crew cab. The question is, will a long bed versus short bed make much of a difference in the stability when towing around 5000 lbs?????

I wouldn't think you'd notice much difference towing 5000#, if it's balanced right. Since you've got an F350 now, and are looking for a crewcab, I'm assuming we're not talking about trading for a F150 supercrew with a 5.5' bed, so whatever you get will still be longer wheelbase and heavier than the Tahoe.

I have not kept up with wheelbases, but, anything 138 WB and over will tow fine. CrewCab with short bed is probably at least 138.

I've towed with CCs in long and short, and I can't say it's made much difference to me. Mine is a short bed.

A CC Short gives you a wheelbase of 156" and a CC Long gives you a wheelbase of 172". That's out of my 2004 F350 Manual.

Check out this site for some general information. They have a wheel base / trailer size chart on their site. Also has some other useful items.
