How to indentfy an fe engine, I was told it is a 390, but i'm not sure. I am sure it is a Fe series engine, the intake is under the edge of the valve covers. The engine knocks so i need to replace it, or rebild it. Thanks
Being an Engine specific question/topic .... You need to be in the FE engine forum.
The 352/3560/390 look identicle for the outside.
Unfortunately, You need to measure the stroke of the piston to confirm the displacement.
Btw, can I ask that you please put the topic in the title of threads you make
ie: FE Engine Identification.
This helps us & other users in not only knowing what the thread is about before we look, it helps with the topic being in a smaller data base for searching topic.
The casting number is by the starter but the only way to tell a 390 from a 360 is measure the stroke. If you search this forum you will find multiple posts on the subject including an explanation how to measure the stroke.
If you are getting a new motor tho all the FE's are the same block so buy a 390 crate motor and stick it in. Then you can sell your old block to Alvin lol.
