Yes that's correct.

The map lights will have to be wired up as well.

Trucks without map lights or cargo lights don't have the wires in the cab harness going up toward the dome lamp. They just have a single dome lamp wire going up to the lamp. The truck is wired for these lamps however further down the harness toward the main harness.

You will need to get the proper harness extention for the map and dome lamps that goes up the back of the cab for the map lights to function.

I do believe early 1980's Dome and Map and cargo light harness extentions are compatible, with possibly a little bit of modification needed on this paticular year truck.

I tried putting one of those in y truck and right off the bat found that the wiring would be a hassle, so I stayed with the original.

Terran, are you now asking about a OEM same replacement dome light lens or assembly or something else ?

I'm not 100% sure on this, but...

Try getting a dome lamp assymbly out of a early 1980 F-series. One without the map lights. They take a 912 light bulb, and have a socket that you could fit a LED into if they make one to replace the 912 etc....

They look very different from the original on the truck however, and I am not 100% sure it's compatible. It would be, go and get one and try it etc...

======

What is wrong with the lamp you have now? Does the light keep burning out or something? Do you need a new lens for the lamp? Is the lamp dim? All those problems can be fixed, without swapping asymblies.
