I would like to hear from a Diesel Mechanic on how many turbos they repair due to this problem?

I have replaced alot of them that are emergency stopped alot, which for safety bypasses the cooldown cycle and post lube. I am not a diesel mechanic, but rather a natural gas engine mechanic. They both use the same turbos, the waste gates are just set differently. Like I said, the OEM would not put this system in place on stationary engines if they thought it was not needed.

Now on to the rest of the story, this is one of the reason many of us did the fast idle switch mod, so if we were going to run into the store quick, we would not have to shut down, and due to the fast idle wet stacking would not occur. Personally I never shut mine down til I am not going to drive it for an extended period. It never gets turned off fueling, especially when towing. My 03 or 05 has yet to have a turbo problem. Don't know if it is related, or just a coincidence, its working for me so I am sticking to it. I have a good mile entrance by a school to my neighboorhood, and also check the mail in the courtyard, mine pretty much idles the last 10 minutes before it is shut down for the day.

After city driving i don't let the turbo cool, unless i know i just run my truck hard in the last couple minutes. However after towing a heavy load i like to let the motor idle for 5 minutes before shutting her down

all the turbos i have replaced have either been overboosting or underboosting. and have only seen one that has been internally damaged. look in the owners manual that came with the truck. trust me, if ford thinks it will make the truck last longer, it will be in there somewhere
