Hey folks, i just wanted to ask again....total timing = intial + mechanical?.....or initial + mechanical + vaccum? My cam spec sheet say 36* to 38* by 3500rpm.....is this with the vacuum advance connected at the time of reading?
Thanks for the response. I cant get my ititial below 14*. I have an extra set of mechanical internals marked 10 and 15. I will set it to the 10 and my initial to 16*.
I pulled my dizzy apart tonight. The guy that worked on it for me had placed a piece of vacuum hose over the stop. This is why I couldn't get the initial down to 10* or 12*. The marks were hard to read but the best that I could tell it either read 13L or 15L. I removed the vacuum hose modification, cleaned everything up and put it back together. I set the initial timing to 12* (the idle was to low at 10*), I drove it and had no pinging (so far). When the outside temp gets back up to around 100* here that might change. When I had the dizzy worked on, it had a bad vacuum advance canaster and was pulling over 20* when connected. I am still thinking my cam needs to be dialed in though. My manifold vacuum is still just below 10hg. Thanks for all the help. So far the info on this sight has beem 100 times more accurate and beneficial than the shops I have been dealing with.
