[updated:LAST EDITED ON 10-Nov-02 AT 07:08 AM (EST)]F10 = F100 Series
Y = 352
N = Norfolk Assembly Plant
832xxx = March 1966

Post the rest of the Warranty Plate info, and I'll decode it as well.

The 352 was not offered in pickups until '68.

The difference between the 352 and 390 is the stroke; a 360 is a 352 crank in a 390 bored block.

Here's the easy way to check the stroke without removing the head. Get a straight 12 inch piece of white electrical house wire or coat hanger wire. Get a magic marker. Remove the number 1 and number 8 spark plugs. Turn the engine over until the timing mark is at TDC. Put the wire in the number 1 spark plug hole with wire resting on the top of the piston. Make a mark on the wire even with the lip on the valve cover. Now move the wire over to the number 8 cylinder and mark the wire again, at the lip. Measure the distance between the two marks.

Results: 3.98 is the stroke for the 410 and 428 engines; 3.78 is the stroke for the 390, 406 and 427 engines and 3.5 is the stroke for the 352 and 360 engines.

Like John Wilker says, 352s magically turn into 390s on sale day!

tt, there is a link to a vin decoder on my club FTE site from below, and in the tech article section on the left. I can tell you just by looking at the first digits that it is a F100 with a 352 built in Norfork. You can use additional info from the site to tell more how your truck was originally built.

The 352 was the only V8 engine offered in 66

Hi John. You're correct, of course; it was a brain-finger shortcircuit. I was thinking 390 and 352 popped out.
My current '66 and the '65 I had years before that were both 352s, and I was told that by the original owners.
At least both sellers didn't transmogrify them into 390s on sale day!Thanks for the correction.
