I think it is Mercon II or III. I forget which specifically but there was only one or the other not both so you can't buy the wrong one between II or III. Newer specs are going to Mercon V. Supposedly new Mercon V fluids are supposed to replace the older Mercons.
Most dipsticks have lettering on them that tell you the right fluid.

It used to me MERCON. There is no such thing as MERCON II or MERCON III.
Ford recently changed the formulation of MERCON V, and will soon stop licensing MERCON. They say the new MERCON V is compatible with the E4OD and 4R100.
So in the near future all that you will be able to buy is MERCON V.
