Keyless Entry Question
Because I am a member of a different car forum I get the priveliage on being his B!tch to look for answers to his questions.
So he is his first question. He just traded his 1999 Dodge 1500 even up with a dealer for a 2000 Ford F-150 LXT. What he wants to know is if he as an FOB for a ford will it work on his this truck?
I read about the 7 to 8 times you turn the truck on and off to program the FOB's but it didn't work.
On my Linclons its a much easier process, buy just crossing the circut behind the glove box waiting for the system to cycle then hit the lock button on the FOB. Do it again and you have driver # 2 set and so on from there.
So my question out of this is or also his. Do all F-150's come standard with the ability to run a remote FOB for door locks?
Also, the FOB changes every few years. So I don't think the FOB on my 2003 would work on your 1997. In other words, even if the truck does have the module, you will need the FOB from a similar year truck to make it work. But then, you should be able to program it.
I'd check on Ebay for a FOB. Those listings usually will give you what year trucks they will work on. That'll at least give you an idea of what the correct FOB looks like. Otherwise, you might be barking up the wrong tree from the get go.
BTW, if you do that procedure of turning key/on off like prescribed in the manual and you get no response from the door locks, the truck doesn't have the module. If it does, then you probably just have an incompatible FOB.
