Exhaust and Intake
The turbo lag on my X became a safety issue with me. So I removed the cat and installed an MBRP cat delete pipe in the OEM exhaust. That got rid of about 50% of the lag. There are those who will tell you that an MBRP cat delete pipe will not work in an OEM exhaust. Trust me I did it and it worked great with no leaks. If your truck is fairly new it takes about 15 minutes to install the cat delete pipe. Turbo performance is dependent on exhaust flow. The more efficient the exhaust flow, the better the turbo performs with faster spin up times. I now have a 4" turbo back MBRP with the cat delete pipe installed and the turbo lag is 95% gone. Also, I can really hear my turbo spining faster at idle with the MBRP then with the OEM exhaust.
As for the intake, that is probably a toss up. The opinions on this site vary. The OEM intake flows very good. I run an OEM filter box with a GREEN high flow air filter installed. Remember, a diesel is nothing more then an air pump. So if you increase the intake air flow and increase the exhaust flow, you make the air pump more efficient, therefore, performance increases and, hopefully, fuel mileage. I have a JOBE cold air intake on order. I believe this is the most efficient intake I have seen so far for the 6.0L PSD since it comes with a new MAF and the inlet pipe between the filter and turbo has airflow guide vanes to reduce turbulence. Reagan Jobe appears to have done his homework and it ain't cheap but usually quality products aren't. That's my $.02 worth!
