Got to admit I`m a Ford blue guy but you`ll pass every gas station that I`ll have to stop in and at today`s fuel price that`s a great way to go. Years ago a neighbour installed a 4 cylinder Ford diesel tractor engine in his 71 F100. Fair on power with good economy. Too bad Ford doesn`t have an automotive diesel engine in this size yet.

It is a 3.0 liter 5 cylinder. Mercedes claims around 120 HP, but it seems like more in the 300SD it came from. The car weighs around 3300lbs. so the engine should do well in this pickup. Fuel economy was around 27-28 MPG. Since the truck is not as aerodynamic, I am hoping for low 20s.

Not long ago I bumped into a guy that had an Isuzu industrial diesel in a 66 Ford F-250. He told me the engine was installed by an Isuzu dealer in West Texas years ago that had advertised that they could fit the engine into anything.
