question for polarbear
probally not the first time thats been the title of a thred!
polar bear, dont know if u remember me but last april u helped me (alot) with good info on the purchase of my new f-250. now my girlfriend has mustang fever, so my first reaction was "gotta check with polarbear", she wants a bright red GT, automatic, with the red interior package (if u cant tell this girl loves red, her current jeep is red with so many red accseories it gives u a headache). so being primarly a truck guy heres what i know... there are no rebates on GT's. the dealers around here are marking them up about $3000. we checked today and they were telling us what a great deal it was when the offerd it at sticker price. ive never paid sticker on a car in my life and just wanted to know if this is out of line or are they just so hot right now that i have no choice? any info is appriciated.
thanks

If you aren't patient and want one off of the lot, sticker is about as good as it gets on a GT Automatic. On a 5-spd, ain't even gonna happen. Miserable availability all the way around on 'Stangs, unfortunately.
Oh, there's still a few reasons, all right. these things are waaay backlogged on orders, so a '07 order will generate a price below MSRP IF it's not a 5-spd. Unless you have to have it for the summer, though, why not get a '07 this late in the year?
ok sounds good. i think ordering is the best choice anyway since she needs a down payment and wont sell her jeep!!! ive tried everything under the sun and she wont budge. so with out selling the heep she'll probaly need a few months to save up. do u know about how long the wait on an ordered 07 is? i know the superdutys are about 2-3 months but im sure its different for mustangs
thanks again

ok polarbear. heres the million dollar question!
i live in the bay area. would it be worth the 10 hour grayhound ride to pick up the stang from u??? i mean ive never even spoken with u and i like u better than the slime ***** ford employs around here. but when it comes down to it, my girlfriend is gonna go where the deal is. do u think we could come out on top buying from you?
thanks again

I ordered 05GT in Feb of 05 and got it 14wks later with the red iup(interior upgrade pkg) and 5speed. Didn't get radio upgrade or side airbags or active antitheft. The list was $26,960 and I got it for $24,900. The salesman said they had a price increase during my 14 wk waiting period and he got "price increase protection for him and me". I am in the midwest and there are Mustangs everywhere here, on the street, and at the dealers lots.
I am an old school Mustang guy having owned many 60's, and few early 70's, but nothing newer because I didn't like the fox bodied models and 94-04 didn't appeal to me much more. But the 05 was what I must have been waiting for and so far I'm not disappointed. The car drives and handles great with no mods, and it hasn't been back to dealer yet except for oil change. This car doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles and that's what I like.

One of the huge sources of frustration for us is how Mustangs and Escape Hybrids are allocated. Mustangs are very common- and readily available, in some parts of the country- but not others. Gulf Coast and West Coast dealers wound up behind the 8-ball, but I'm sure Ford had their reasons. Hybrids are targeted towrds "green" areas of the country. This I do understand- there are tax and image considerations at play.
sounds good! i did a build my ford thing and il put the link to it at the bottom of this message, but incase it doesnt work. she want a mustang GT, torch red, automatic trans, and the red interior uprgrade package. i built this car on ford.com and it came out to $29,025. she is getting a promotion in a few months, i think she wants to order it then. but im sure some good news from the bear would speed things up!!!

between the additional cost of the vehicle and battery replacement that is manditory hybrids are nothing more than gimmics at this point.
polarbear, hope the fte picnic is going well! it turns out there is no mustang shortage around here, the local ford store has 60 GT's!! so many left with the 07's around the corner that they are selling them at $50 under invoice! but as u can probaly guess they dont have the one my girlfriend wants so we will still be up to see u sooner or later!
