52 rear brake drum question/concern
Anywhoo, finally got all the parts I need to redo the brakes; springs, shoes, drums, wheel cylinders, master...the whole shootin' match. Everything went great except for the passanger rear drum. All the drums went on great, but this last one probably had 1/16th on each side keeping it from easily fitting. I could get it started by hand, but couldn't get it the rest of the way. The adjuster wheel was all the way seated, the shoes were seated correctly, not in the drum groove. So...in my 'I gotta drive it today' mode. I massaged it on with a wooden block and a hammer. I didn't have to pound on it.. just tap it half a dozen times and it seated fine.
I drove it about 6 blocks and I could tell that it was grabbing and when I felt the drum after driving, it was hotter than the other drum, not a ton, but enough to notice a difference.
My concern/question is: Do I run any risk of fusing the drum to the shoe? (if that is a possibility.) What other risk's do I run if I don't remove the drum and turn it? Will the shoes/drum eventually be fine after wearing down after a few miles?
Thanks for the help in advance and looked forward to being on here a lot more. Finally got cable!!!

I've had this happen and it went away pretty quickly. There's usually just one high spot that is dragging. But make sure your e-brake cable isn't adjusted wrong, holding the shoes apart.
It may be a high spot. If you take the drum off you should be able to see where the shoes are showing wear to see if that is it.
I don't know about older cars but I know 70/80 and up have front and rear shoes for each brake. If you put I think two front on one side the drum will fit and it will be fine but the other side will not fit.
That could also be your problem.
If not see if you can get the shoes ground down some.
