Question Fuse Blowing

I'm new to this so here goes. I've got a 1997 F350, 7.3 diesel, automatic and towing a 34' fifth wheel. I've installed a banks exhaust brake a year ago and works fine. It pulls great but when I pull it down into second gear it blows the fuse going to my dash gages, tach, oil, alt, fuel ? Took it to the shop and they can't find whats causing the short. I checked all the wiring harness for wear or pinches and found nothing. So I just replace fuse # 17 and don't pull it down into second for now. It works fine as long I don't pull it into a lower gear. Wiliam

You might want to take your steering column cover apart and look at your shifter, you should have the OD button on the end of your shift lever correct? If you look at where the shift lever is pinned to the shift collar, there are some wires that come out, my bet is that one of the wires, the power one has rubbed through and when you pull down to 2nd, it hits metal and pops the fuse, my 00 f-150 work truck did this, took apart wasn't bad, wrapped with good'ol electrical tape andput back together, been about a year and a half, no more problems, shop guys had ordered new shift lever, said it was quite common. they were happy I saved them the trouble and expense.
