turbo help...please

I would like to replace my turbo with a better setup but just have a few questions before i jump in and start buying parts. From what i read the van turbo housing/ats housing is one of the better setups for the money. Should i rebuild the van turbo when i get it? Is this all i need or is there other parts that i will need to make this work on my truck. Any advice is greatly appreciated since i am new to diesels and turbos but want to do as much as possible to the truck. Thanks alot

This may not necessarilly be the best next mod for you. Do you have gauges, fuel, exhaust etc to support this mod? Update your signature or gallery to give us something to work with. You can always just jump into the fire with a turbo upgrade. Your longevity will be subject to debate.

Edit: not trying to be a buzzkill, but the stock turbo can make some good HP with chips/tuning etc but don't burn up the engine.

I have 5" exhaust and kwik intake. I am planning on doing a bunch of mods at the same time. 6.0 intercooler, 6.0 tranny cooler, bts valve body, the fuel mods, gauges, and a dp digital tunner. I am trying to learn as much as i can about all of these things and start getting the parts rounded up. Thanks for your advice. Do i need different injectors to run this turbo setup? I want to do the mods the safe way so any advice is greatly appreciated. I just want to know what i am going to need so i can start looking for the parts and getting them together without ending up with a bunch of useless parts cause i didn't know what to get. Thanks again

I see you have a 2003, so I want to remind you to go easy on the power mods until you get some forged connecting rods installed.

you should be safe with those mods and PMR's. i have basically all that except for the IC (future), valve body (i have sonnax), and a DP chip (i have TS. i have a van turbo and the fuel system like you said, and my dyno numbers said 291/579. im thinking my fuel system maybe gave a few hp but im not betting on it.

no you do not need different injectors to run a 1.15 exhaust housing. however when you do get injectors, you dont have to instantly upgrade your turbo, because you can still flow alot of air with a modded van turbo. (ATS, WW) Mech had hybrid 530 injectors and he ran the van turbo. sure he had lots of smoke, which meant he could use more air(flow), (not boost) and now he has upgraded his turbo to a Hypermax K31, and now he is in the search for more fuel. i plan on doing fat injectors and some spray to touch it up.
