64 Body on a 79 frame

I have a friend that wants to put his 64 F100 body on a 79 F150 frame. Will everything line up and bolt right on or were there changes over the years that would cause major headaches???

It will be challenging, but should work. You will have to snip the end of the chassis and slide the rear axle setup forward. Should make the ol truck ride and handle much better.

64 Body on a 79 frame

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 02-Dec-02 AT 12:09 PM (EST)]The front cab mounts are WAY off and will have to be relocated. You CAN get by on the rears by redrilling the 64's floor and using the holes in the 79 frame, or cut the 64 brackets off and remount them. If you want to see this swap in pictures look in my gallery. I'm knee deep in this very thing right now.
Almost forgot...the wheelbase is longer on the 79 too, so you'll have to shorten it up about 4-5 inches.
If you just slide the rear axle forward there's not much room for axle travel because it gets too close to the frame. The area right under the forward spring hanger is a good spot to cut. The frame is still straight at that point. After that it tapers out to 37". Which by the way, will require redrilling the bed for the hold down bolts, OR making some kind of offset "adapter" to mate them up.Drop me a line if you have any questions. I'd love to share the JOY of this swap with you.
Good luck,
