My 05 F-150 has 31K highway miles and the front tires are wearring on the inside only. The local Ford dealorship didn't want to look at the truck unless I could show receipts for tire rotation at every 5Kmiles. If I rotated my tires every 5K miles, I would have 4 bad tire not just 2. After yelling in the show room floor, which by the way people are willing to listen you, they reluctantly put the truck on the lift and found the tie roods, ball joints, shims cotrol arms, ect. are bad. When I asked why the went bad so soon his reply was because of the pot holes in the road. After informing him of the off road sticker on the rear of the truck I also mentioned if the truck can't handle the roads then don't bother taking it off road. I never took the truck off road yet and I'm not sure I want to. Ford is now replacing all the parts at no cost but refuses to replace the tires. Has anybody run into this probem? If not, you may want to jack up the front end and make sure its all tight.
I replaced all front end parts out of pocket , upper and lower control arms, inner and outer tie rods this was at 20k.. one of the reasons I traded it in.. If my stealer would have taken care of this I would still be driving a Ford.. At least your some what getting taken care of ..the cost of tires is nothing compared to the cost of the front end parts.. Just my .02 cents the Dodge troll
Cheers J.T.
i saw this inside wear on my tires at 5k . asked dealer about it at 8k while getting an oil change and tire rotation.they said they would check alignment.i said please give me a read out from alignment .the said oh ok but when cashing out i asked for print out,he said they didnt give me one.out come its the tires fault.
My 06 had the tires cupping in the front at 4500 miles, and the dealer told me its because I didn't rotate my tires when I did my first oil change at 3k. I told him the owners manual states to rotate them every 5k. H etells me that I'm supposed to rotate them at every oil change
I rotated them and I will keep an eye on them to see if this happens again. I went through the whole thing with telling them I want an alignment sheet, and they tell me that its all within spec. As far as keeping receipts for tire rotation, thats bull. How would I produce one if I rotate them by myself at home. There is no way tire rotation would make the front-end wear out. Out of balance would make that happen.

Reason: changed bullsh*t to bull
It really does seem lately that every dealer has an "answer" for common sense. Unfortunately for the dealers, I think it is the same thing as we are going through with the construction equipmetn we carry- the manufacturers are cutting waaaaay back on what they cover and how, and are leaving the dealers to carry the cost in their place. My tires are doing the same thing, and I gave up- I took it in to have it aligned, and they said "we have to replace this, this, this, and this because to adjust it to what it needs to be at, the parts would be out of range. WTF? The alignment had a very, very slight pull (not road crown) and I just wanted to get it fixed. I really don't know about Ford- I honestly don't see them having the same ownership in 10 years...
The dealer in question, who is fixing the truck, gave me the line, All trucks wear on the inside. The front tires are supposed to slant like that. Todays roads will cause the early falure of the front end of your Fx4 off road eddition truck. What happened to "Built Tough". I went to the dealer where I bought the truck and told them the story and they laughed. For now on I will travel to this dealer no matter the longer distance. Hopefully the truck will be finished tommorrow 7/24.
I wonder if the dealer in question is giving hell because I bought the truck somewhere else.
My tires are cupping also. Unfortunately the truck has almost 9k on it now and will be the first time the tires are rotated. But on the plus side I replaced the junk oem generals a week after I bought the truck so I had already lost the tire warranty. I did have the stealer check the alignment during the first 12 month warranty and they said at that time everything was fine. I think the IFS front end has troubling dealing with the heavy weight of the truck and more then likely the front tires on these trucks will always be cupping.
The General tires on my 04 XLT SCREW were badly worn on the inside at 8000 miles. I ended up taking the truck to a local shop. They alligned the front end and replaced the front tires. They said they were getting alot of the new Ford trucks in for allignement. They thought that maybe the alignemnt was not set right from the factory.
It makes me wonder what kind of leeway one can give then the other? I can't see how there's any out of pocket expences when for pays the dealor $75 an hr and pays for the parts. Tommorrow my truck will be for 7 days. I wonder if they found more wrong but will not say anything due to the lemon law.

It sounds like your dealers are not looking or knowledable of the TSB's available, one being TSB 05-26-6 for tire feathering, and the other with the extended warranty 3year or 36K miles for rapid tire wear, uneven wear etc.
There is also a letter backing up the 36K tire replacement warranty change:
