Question Need a tad bit mo'power

Hello all, I have a Ford Courier (Yeah theres still a few around) need to swap out the original 2.3 for something a bit more powerful I was thinking 4.0 or something or a 22RE out of a Toyota. I'm not much for engine computers and such, any suggestions? I just want a nice, reliable, ride...Oh and I want a 5-speed.
Thanx,
Red460

Check with a Mazda forum. The Courier was a Mazda and they would have more of an idea what you can do with it.

Best and easiest swap would be a 2.3 turbo out of a thunderchicken turbocoupe. You would have fuel injection ( easy nitrous add on), little weight addition, would not have to change motor mounts, late model t5 trans i believe is a bolt up (maybe need to fab trans mount). find a wrecked thunderbird and buy it whole.

Gee, two Courier rants in one day. Why would you want more power in a death trap like this truck? Buy a later model Ranger or if you must a pre '85 Mazda B2000 if you want a real lightweight with a 5 gear.....

Why do people lift their trucks to silly heights? They're death traps right? Easy to roll over?
Why do people try to put people down because of the vehicles they like?
When i was in high school, I owned a 77 courier. Some of the things i have done in that truck according to you, I should be dead. Damn, I'm still here!
The Gentleman did not ask for your opinion on the safety of these trucks. Hell, all vehicles are death traps if you get down to it. some are just not as likely than others. If you run a new Jetta off a 100 foot cliff, it will kill you just as the courier would. Is the new Jetta (supposed to be one of the safest vehicles this year) a death trap? Again, any vehicle is a death trap in the right crash. Even a 1985 ford e150 van!

Thumbs up More Power

Thanks for the info guys it'll really help me with my search at the local wrecking yard. With it being a death-trap and all, I'll take the risk.
Thanks,

Well, you might as well try to find a 460, NP435 tranny and a Dana 60 rear while you are at it. If you're going to go, go all out. good luck. I have an 83 ranger with a pretty healthy 302 in it, they seem to go hand in hand, nothing wrong with a mini truck with a lot of power. It sure is fast. I upgraded everything, its definetly not a hack job.
