Question Transmission Idendification

I have a question about it type of trans I have in my all stock ford truck.
It is a 86 F150 with the little 4X2 badges on the front fenders. It has a 300 six and a 4 speed trany with the bull dog gear being first. The parts store can not tell me what it is.

It has the ford logo on it and on teh original door the trans code is A

Now the rear end axle is new but I want to know some about it as well. It is also a ford housing and is not the 9 inch. the numbers on it are 1st line, 9806a
The second line is 308 8 8 6J15

Any help would be great, I want to drain all the fluids from the axle and trans and replace with Royal Purple this weekend.

Trans could be a NP205

can you get numbers off the IDent plate ?

308 = 3.08:1 Ratio

8 8 - 8.8" ring gear

6J15 = cast on September 15 1986

Dennis, thank you for the reply. And sorry about the poor spelling, I must have been ready for sleep.
I will have to check into it further for the trans ID tag. It has a little plate on the passenger side with about 6 or 8 bolts and that plate looks to be about 8 inches in a oval pattern.
That info on the rear axle is great. I guess it needs that ratio because of the trans being so low geared. At 55 MPH I am at about 2000 RPM. This truck has a tack from the factory built in the center of the gauge cluster. Thanks again for the reply.
