I wonder if anyone might help me on mounting my 46 cab? I know this question has probably come up before. When the Ford factory mounted the cabs, did they use springs under the frame where the bolts passed through? If so, then did they only use them under the mounts that pass through the frame rails?
On my half ton. there were no springs. The cab was mounted over blocks of wood, and bolted directly to the frame brackets. My 41 half ton is the same.
Were there springs on yours?
Does anyone know if there is a source for rubber mounts to replace the hardwood? It seems like somone would make them. The wood mounts on my 41 make for a rough ride.
Thanks Fix for responding, When I bought my truck it was unassembed. I purchased a rolling chassis a few months ago and the person I bought it from had torched off the cab bolts, but under the frame rail there were springs hanging from the old bolts between the nuts and under the rail. I wondered if they were suspose to be there. I bought new wood blocks and would like to mount my cab soon. I was hoping someone had a truck that the cab has never been removed that could tell me if the springs are are there.
I just went out to look at my '42, and damned if there isn't enough light to look through under there and see. I'd have stuck my hand around, but I was afraid of grabbing a black widow.
I'll hunt up a flashlight or drop cord and take a look a bit later.
On my '46 1/2 ton, never removed from the frame, there are springs on the furthest forward mounts of the front mount (the long block at the front of cab), on the rear cab mounts, there are springs between the frame rail and the nuts. In fact the rear bolts use 2 springs per bolt...arranged as frame rail, spring, washer, spring, washer, nut.
Do they work?
I'm sure that someone removed the ones that would have been on my 41. Would it be worth changing the bolts and putting some springs in, or are they pretty much useless.
It doesn't seem like they could work.
I think I might still be looking for rubber mounts.
