I just purchased a '06 Super Crew King Ranch 5.4L with 4 wheel drive....I need all of you experts to let me know all of the extras I can add to this already nice truck to improve performance, appearance, and most importantly MPG!!!
I am pretty new to all of this so if you have information that would be helpful, I would greatly appreciate it. I am not very mechanically educated, so as much explanation as possible is appreciated.
Hey Cody,
congrats on your new ride...the only thing that really works is the Edge belive me I have spent a chit load of money on modding three new body style F-150's..call the guys DiscountPowerParts they will give the best price in the world on any item you desire for you KR F-150
Welcome to a great site
Cheers J.T.
I appreciate it. I am actually looking at their site right now. I am glad to be here. It seems to be a great avenue for learning more about what I can accomplish.
congrats on the new truck, what color is it? The first thing i would add is a bugshield, and some vent visors for the side windows. Also you could add some sort of flat cover on top of the boeither a hard fibreglass or a roll up)that would protect your cargo and help with your mileage a little, also, a grill guard would look nice. Alot of guys on here added and autospring 1.5-2'' leveling kit to the front end, it will make the truck sit level and leave enough room to put taller tires on.
I haven't got much into performance addons for the motor but alot of guys are putting tuners on their trucks to get better performance. The only thing I can tell you that will help increase your MPG's is to drive with a light foot, these trucks are so quiet and smooth riding that you drive alot faster than you think you are going, and that will kill your fuel economy. I went from a 15.5mpg to a 18mpg just by using the cruise as much as possible and by lowering my speed to around 58mph on two lane roads and 65mph on four lane roads instead of the 65-70mph that I was driving all the time.
All of that sounds good to me. It is White....I am about to add a picture on my profile if possible. The leveling kits....are they easy to install? Meaning, I have seen the cost to be around $180, but do not want to pay $200 to install it. I definitely am not in the position to install myself. I am wanting an exhaust system that sounds good and looks good. I don't know which one to go with though. I am getting a Bull bar in the front, and I definitely want to get a cover of some sort. If I were to get the leveling kit, would it allow 33" tires or less than that?
33'' shouldn't be a problem with the leveling kit. A friend of mine installed his leveling kit himself, he had to jack the front end up off the ground and remove a few thing to get at the springs, I think he said it took him about 1.5hrs. Alot of guys on here are putting Flowmaster exhaust on their trucks and are happy.
My sites are set on the Jack ROSCH 145 HP Super Charger. I think 445 HP should move my truck quite nicely. As for appearance mods go. that's strictly up to your preference. There are plenty of aftermarket grills, bed covers, window treatments, hood scoops, stripes etc to go around. Do an eBay search for your year and F150 for more options.
My personal experience with an Airaid cold air intake and Magnaflow dual side exit catback exhaust yielded only minor performance gains and about 0.5 to 1.0 maximum increase in mpgs. After a year or so of putting up with the slight drone/noise from both the intake and exhaust, and getting tired of trying to keep the shiny tips clean, I took both parts off and sold them.
my truck is a 04 FX4 Screw 5.4V8

Funny thing about "Cat Back" exhaust. It doesn't replace the heart of the exhaust making it breath easier. If you really want increased performance, get a performance exhaust from the manifolds to the tips. Complete with high flow mufflers and cats.
Air intake systems tend to whistle when you romp on it. It's cool if you don't mind it. But, it does get annoying when you have to keep telling people what's whistling from your truck. I'd rather hear the whistle of the Super Charger.

How much sound and performance would you estimate, with just the muffler verses the whole kit? Single outlet?? I am thinking just getting the muffler by it's self. Will it still have a nice deep tone? More interested in the sound than performance.
