first, i do not want to hot rod my 04 6.0PSD...PERIOD, just want reliable performance while towing my 5er...
i am looking at the Quadzilla Commander Monitor and the Xzillaraider XZT package to monitor and control the motor...and possibly prevent future turbo problems (replacement and 5 days in the shop)...
wymanwinn,
I was looking for some more power and efficiency and so I also bought the XZT. I'm just waiting to get my hands on the Commander before I install both at the same time. When it happens, I'll let you know.
I can understand that and from what I've heard it's been a good digital gauge. This one I think is better then the others as far as you have to mount your own sensor probes for the tranny and the egt gauges and the one thing that I have harped on about digital guages is that from my experiance some of those readings taken from the computer show cooler then if you had analog gauges. Which is easy enough to get around you just have to realize that and lower your warning settings, however, if I remembered correctly about the tranny sensor(and that's the one that I usually mention because that's the one that I obsessively watch all the time) then that would eliminate the one that I usually see as a drawback to digital gauges as the others haven't been that far off from the analog gauges to be of as much concern as the tranny temp.
I have the XZT and it works well enough and is extremely easy to install. Its about the best bang for the buck for a small increase in HP. One thing that I have read on other message boards is the Quads dont work well with auto trannies because it doesnt change settings until the oil temp comes up to 40C and the computer gets confused and is constantly learning a new ruitine. Its not a problem for me though as I have the 6 Spd. I was hopping for a bigger MPG increase too, but oh well.
I followed that one..... thanks DD. Did you ever get the fuel pressure kit? I was planning on getting that too..... I received a message from AMJ and see if he can match the price quote I got today.
I searched all over the internet for the best price on a commander, amj had the best price. I wold expect amj to be able to give you the best price. did you check their site? they have them on there. I did not get the fuel pressure kit because I haven't heard any good things about it. I may try it out the day I get sticks and dj's fuel kit.
I finally did install my XZT for a few months and I really enjoyed it. I don't think that my highway mileage increased all that much (consistently 18 mpg), but my intown mileage ran a pretty consistent 15-16, which was definitely up a few mpg. I did really love the power when towing as it made a huge difference and my truck very rarely downshifted on the hills. I do have an auto and I did notice that the shifts were a little harsher until I got up to temperature, and then the shifting was quick and smooth.
As for the Commander, I haven't got one yet as I'm contemplating trading the truck in on an Excursion.
On a side note, if I could get the same power gains out of an SCT X3 with a towing tune and add the ability to control the tranny better, then I'd be willing to go that route as I've realized that I'll never get a huge mpg increase.
I got my commander from Innovative Diesel Performance (IDP) about 6 months ago. It has been fine, I really only use it for Transmission temp and EGT as the other readouts are tapping into the factory harness and providing the same inforamtion that the dash gauges supply. I just didn't care to worry about hooking them up. I really would've went with A pillar gauges but was trying to keep the grab handle.
as the other readouts are tapping into the factory harness and providing the same inforamtion that the dash gauges supply.
Not quite the same. The sensors actually give better information that what is displayed on your factory gauges, it just happens to run a little cooler due to where they have the probes. Each increment on a dash gauge has a huge range of readings. You might have a span of 40 degrees(or psi depending on what gauge your talking about) within that "normal" gauge readout on the factory cluster, but atleast with using the sensors you can see exactly where you are in that range and decide if you need to back off or not. When I had the digital gauge at first with the water temp the dash gauge would have me at normal operating temp. way to fast even faster then what the digital readout was on the monitor and that's because the "normal" operating point on the dash gauge has a high range of degrees.
I got my Commander at shopdiesel.com and got the best price possible-PERIOD! Email Bob for the best in pricing and service. Tell him I sent you and he might get you the same pricing he was able to give me...
Good luck-

I bought through AMJ who sponsors this section.... I did alot of shopping around and he came through with the best deal. I bought the commander, fuel pressure kit, a-pillar mount and he threw 2 day shipping and a can of lt. grey paint in "free"! Now, I'll be able to see more of what matt's (spartan diesel tech) tunes are doing! Thanks for all your help!
