Ahh, its good to be back at FTE!! Been so busy lately with school, work truck ect... Anyways, I've noticed that my oil pressure isnt reading where it should be(granted, its the stock guage, we know howreliable those are). It usually read right in the middle, now it reads more towards the N or O. Some days it wil read normal, others it will be "low"(I use the term loosely..). What could be the problem, bad sensor, corrosion on the sensor contacts, internal problems(hope not, new engine!!). Runs fine otherwise, plenty of power and no other obvious things wrong. Any ideas??
As quicklook said, the oil psi "gauge" is nothing more than an idiot light. A resistor on the back of the gauge determines where the needle position will be. Normally it's set for midway up or a little above that. If the gauge is still in the "low" area, that means you don't have 7 PSI. If it's anywhere except for "low", then you have 7 PSI. Get a real gauge to determine oil PSI. I can't tell you how many arguements I've gotten into over those damn gauges. People swear up and down they move whenever you throttle it up from idle. Personally, I think they're seeing things.
The less than 7psi is not quite accurate. It turns on a 7psi, and off at below. So if you have less than 7psi it's not going to read at all.. It will fall clear to the L on the gauge. What you're experiencing is a resistance issue in the wire to the gauge. Check the connection at the engine, also you may need a new sender. DON'T buy the cheap one at autozone or advance. Get one from carquest or napa and get the higher quality one if you can. I had one go bad in my LTD that would turn the engine (doubles up for oil pressure and collant temp) on at idle in gear. Turns out I still have over 15psi at idle in gear hot... So I changed the sensor and don't worry about it.
i would like tol install an (electric) fuel pressure sender from actron with the corresponding gauge. is it possible to keep also the original sender (with a simple T, both senders are connected to) because i do not know what the eec does if there is no signal from the oil pressure sender ...
greetings

Water 5 and GML, with the 351/302, the sender is in a very tight location. It's jammed between the bracket for the PS pump and the oil filter. So a T fitting might be difficult to work with. I recommend just pulling the factory sender out and put it somewhere safe. Take the single wire that ran to it and tie it up out of the way so that it's safe. Then just take the sender for your aftermarket gauge and put it in where the factory unit goes. The factory gauge in your truck will be on "Low" all the time, but at least now you will be able to get an accurate reading from a true gauge.
Then later on if you decide to sell the truck, you can pull your aftermarket gauge/sender out and put the factory sender back in and your dash gauge will work again.
As far as it screwing with the EEC, I don't think you need to worry. I did this exact thing with my friends 96 F-150 351 auto with MAF and it didn't effect the computer at all. Obviously that year was the most advanced as far as our bodystyle's go.
They are close. The variability between years may have made it more difficult (impossible?) for you to add the T fitting. On my truck there was a pipe extending from the block with the sender at the end of that, It may be farther out since the variable sender is larger than the switches on the newer trucks. Maybe you can get a 4 to 6 inch piece of pipe that will get far enough out to allow you to put a T fitting on that with room to attach everything.
i was wonderin is the oil pressure wire for the 1994 f150 302 between the oil filter and power steerin pump if so is it a white wire with a red stripe help would be appriceacted sorry to not be help to u on advice but i saw this and had question bout this stuff to

Reason: tyed 2 and 0 backward for the engine size
I believe the oil pressure gauge on my 87 302 is more than an idiot light. I could be wrong though. My guage shows increased oil pressure when the engine is cold and when the rpm is increased
