I would like to know if anybody knows if the key lock on the passanger side of my 49 Ford is stock or an add on? I don't have a good picture of it and can't get one now, but if you look in my gallery you can see where it is. If you look ar the picture of it still on the u-hall.
It has a little piece that slides over the actual lock so it just looks like a piece of chrome. The driverside doesn't have one.
Did these have any locks on them at all? I have seen no place that even looks like it had a lock on the drivers side.
Thank You for your help.
Back in those days exterior door locks were only put on the passenger side at the factory. A safety issue to keep people from being hit by passing vehicles on narrow streets. Some have added the lock to the drivers side for convenience. Do a search on door lock and you should find some threads discussing this item.
I just ordered a drivers door latch with keyed lock from Bob Drake for my 40 cpe. Comes with template to put lock cylinder in door. I did the same on my 53 F100, well at least put the cyl in the door. Might look at Drake for availability of same for your truck.
LEckart is right. Standard equipment for those trucks was a door lock on the pass side only. What you have sounds like the original style lock. The Custom Cab trucks came with door locks on both sides.
