if the fuel pump is bad what are the signs? my bronco sounds like its gasping for air, or something is clogged up. i had a flowmaster exhaust installed this past weekend, i brought it back but there was no air leaks nor the cat is bad. the sound gets louder going uphill, but when on the freeway going it seems fine. also, when i first start up the bronco, its seems fine till about 5 min later then the sound kicks in. when this happens i feel like i dont get the power that i need because its gasping for air or clogged? i checked my spark plugs and wires and they seem fine. underneath from the cat back its sounds fine, but theres a small buzzing noise by the front axel too. any suggestions as to what this problem can be?
You have a Thermactor system problem. I'd almost be will to put money on it. When the engine reaches operating temp. the truck goes into closed loop operation and introduces the EGR into the combustion cycle. If the Thermactor system has a problem, the whole of the control system for the engine is compromised. Pull the codes first. This will help alleviate chasing things that MIGHT be the problem. The "check engine light" need not come on for there to be codes stored in the computer's memory.
I'd be willing to bet that you have lost a Thermactor check valve either in the crossover tube at the back of the engine between the heads or below the diverter valve at the top of the steel tube from the cat. I bet at least one of 'em is cracked, snapped in half or the hose(s) have come off. Ends up sounding like a manifold exhaust leak or some odd sort of buzz somewhere near the firewall. If the one in the crossover tube has gone south, replace it immidiately! the exhaust will back up through the broken valve and melt the main engine bay wiring harness that runs across the top of the cowl. If this problem isn't visually obvious, pull the codes and be certain.
