Fuel problem

I have a 1992 Ranger, 3.0 eng, 2wd. The truck has been sitting for 4 years, and when I try to start I get no fuel pressure to fuel rails. I do get a small amount of gas to bleed out the schrader valve, but no pressure. I replaced the fuel filter, it was stopped up and I couldn't blow through it, but this didn't fix problem of no fuel. Before I either remove the bed or drop the fuel tank to access the fuel pump, I want to determine if the fuel pump is the problem. I have 12 volts going to the fuel pump relay and at the inertia switch I have 10 volts until I jumper the connection to the fuel pump, then the voltage drops to 0 volts. Does this indicate a bad fuel pump? I can't hear it run when ignition is turned on, but there is a small amount of fuel going to the fuel rail.
Thanks for your help. Foz

run a wire from the battery to the fuel pump and see if it comes on full force. If it does, you have a problem with the wiring, relay, intertia switch, etc. If not, it's the pump.

Sounds like the fuel pump. RP has a good idea. also, i'm wondering if you could tow it to an autozone, get a code readout.

I did try running 12 volts to the wire going to fuel pump from the intertia switch, as this was the only accessible place to get to the wire that goes to fuel pump without dropping tank or removing bed that I know of. The 12 volt wire sparked as I connected it, but did not hear the fuel pump run, had my wife listen at the fuel tank fill pipe with gas cap off. If I need to access the fuel pump, is it easiser to remove the bed or drop tank? I'm several miles from AutoZone.

I'd count on the pump being bad then.

Pull the bed, sad as it is, that's tons easier than actually doing the work and dropping the tank lol. Plus you don't have to empty the tank to do it.

Thanks for the advice, I will probably try to remove the bed to get access.
Thanks to all, Foz

Wait a minute!!!!

The 10 volt thing & the voltage dropping to zero when you jumper the pump up front, sounds like a high resistance electrical connection problem in the 12 volt supply end of things to me.

I'd maybe suspect a poor contact at the fuel pump relay or one of the fuse connectons, or maybe a bad ground connection.

Seeing as how this is a 92, you should be able to use a analog voltmeter, or count the flashes on the CEL, to pull the codes.

Also, doesn't this early model Ranger use two fuel pumps???? A low pressure one in the tank, feeding the high pressure one, on the frame rail under the cab????

Just some more thoughts & questions for consideration.
