I read that the timing can't be adjusted on 88 150s (351W)except by a mechanic. I've tried to move the distributor on mine, but it won't budge. First, can I adjust it myself, and second, if I can ,the distr. must be frozen in place...how can I unstuck it? I've sprayed it with WD40, but no use. I loosen the hold-down bolt completely, but I just can't get enough leverage to break it loose. Am I going to break something, besides my knuckles?
Also, what would make the truck stall when I press the accelerator? I have to pat it until it picks up rpms before I can accelerate normally. It idles around 600 rpms. I know that's low. What does the problem sound like? Do I need to just have a mechanic put it on a diagnostic computer?
You have to pull the spout plug (near distr) to disable the computer advance before you set the timing. It is probably just frozen, it will move, it just doesn't want too.
