Engine Almost Blown, should I replace engine or junk it?
My trusty 79 Ford F150 with a 302 is running on the ragged edge. I know the engine is about the blow. The thing is ugly, everyone makes fun of it because its so rusted out, but I ve had it for 6 years and its been great. I paid about 600 for it when I bought it from a coworker. Apparently, it was a special model, it had air conditioning, which has since been removed. It also has aluminum wheels, groovy yellow and orange stripes. I have only seen one or two like it.
Each of the past years, I put a little money into it, rebuilding the suspension, new shocks, new steering parts, brakes etc.
So, Im wondering, how cheaply and easily could I get another engine for it and not spend a whole lot or should I just bite the bullet and say so long, thanks for the memories....
How much do you "LOVE" your truck??? Answer that...and you will know what to do.
If you are going to keep her and replace that engine, then I suggest moving up to the 351. Can be on the cheap...and still be reliable. PLUS the after market is flooded with parts.

A little money... Less than car payments? People can laugh at your beater all they want, the bank won't take your beater if you land on hard times. You can probably find a running used engine for less than $500. You could possibly find a running parts truck for less than $500.
Looks like you have already replaced the important wear parts.
Where are you plance? If your near central Oh I have 302 I may part with, depending on if you like the price, if not my good friends just down the road will give as many running 302s as you can handle for their value at the scrap yard( about $100 is what he'll let a runner go for) Let me know what ya think. For a fee i may even deliver some distance or all distance depending where you are.
KEEP THAT OLD GIRL ON THE ROAD BOTTOM LINE...dont let the junk lords take 'er. If too many more go to junk we'll all be buying our old trucks out of JC whitney!!!!
