New to this forum and I have a couple of questions for the Explorer experts.
First, here is driving habits. I have a '99 Explorer with the 5.0 V8. My mileage is just over 153K. I live in San Diego and tow two large Waverunners to the Colorado River about 12 times a year. The rest of the time it is a daily driver of about 70 miles a day.
So, my questions are:
What kind of maintenance is it due for?
I heard you need to rebuild the engine at about 150K. True?
How long can I expect my Explorer to last?
I am not very mechanically inclined. Any help/advice will be appreciated.
hey whats up ne user here too. i have a 98 xlt. anyways id say throw a tune up on it and get the fluids changed like the oil, transmission, coolant flushed out and replace the fuel filter and air filter. you can also call your local ford dealer too and see whhat they do on 150k mile tune ups i can check it out to and i will post. i have almost 130k miles on mine i just got it at 122k and im not sure what they did on it before i had it. but i would look into and tune up. anyways welcome aboard im from california too im in the prunedale area.
Just keep up your regular maintenence. My 92 Explorer has 166k miles on it and thats all I have been doing. The 5 litre is a very stout motor and if taken care of properly will last a long time. My 94 Mustang has a 5.0 and has 150k on it with no problems whatsoever. Just keep taking care of it and it should keep on goin.
