I finally finished my C4 tranny rebuild and I have a question about the orientation of the tranny mount on my 1977 C4 tranny. The mount can be bolted to the tranny two different ways, since the mounting holes on the mount are offset from center. One way has the mount bolted closer towards the front of the transmission and the other has farther back. Which way is correct for my 77 F150 2-wheel drive application? I'd rather get it correct now when it is sitting on my work bench then when it's under my truck during installation. I have three different manuals and none of them talk about this part of the assembly. Also does any one know the torque spec for these bolts?
Stuart, my C4 tranny mount bracket does not have a protrusion that I can see, Other than the mounting holes being offset to one side of the bracket it is perfectly symmetrical. I could post a link to a photo if that will help.
Stuart, I am wondering now if I misinterpretted what you wrote. Were you saying when the tranny mount is mounted correctly to the transmission it will be protruding out towards the rear of the transmission. Is that correct?
This is the best picture I have right now of the tranny mounting bracket bolted up to the tranny. The way I have it on there now it is bolted w/ the offset towards the front of the tranny. Let me know if you need a better photo. Thanks.
