Well when i took my transmission to get looked at i took it to the guy who rebuilt it. After talking to him after he told me the sprag was destroyed i asked him what type of torque convertor the previous owner had him put in. He told me it was the Precision Industries Stallion. Is this one used in the BTS trans? He also told me that because the sprag went that the torque convertor could now be junk. Are there places i could take the torque convertor to be test? It feels like its locking up really well no slipping that i can feel in third. I just really hope i can re use it.
Youd be better off goin ahead and putting a new one in it. your going to have it out anyway. That way you know you can rely on it not screwing up on you
Well i took it somewhere else to get the transmission rebuilt, turned out the case was cracked so i got a ford reman. Im glad i didnt go to the guy who rebuilt it the first time because he told me that the convertor was the PI and turns out it was some junk one that doesnt last long at all. So i decided to get a 6.0 Convertor.
REALLY!? i am thinking about doing a light-duty rebuild with a stock 6.0 converter till i have $4000 aside. LMK everything about how you like it opposed to stock, and how much of a difference it was from the supposed PI converter.
Well the very first thing i noticed was the truck was faster, not by much but better than it was before. My tranny tempatures went down as well. I asked him the diffrences and 6.0 is a triple friction convertor. Its not the same as a triple disc. He told me that the 6.0 also uses bearings opposed to the bushings that the stock 4R100 does. It also holds more fluid. It seems that im getting better mileage as well. You have to make an adapter to make it fit correctly.
The supposed PI convertor i had was blue and did NOT have a billet cover which instantly when he showed it to me i knew i didnt have one.
oh it's not a triple disc converter, i thought it was.
i know that John Wood at JWTT sells the adapters. his site is so-so and it wasn't on there. i want less of the feeling of power but not going anywhere with the TC unlocked. i use my TC lockup basically all the time to prevent this and it's basically a manual transmission with a torque converter and no clutch pedal.
