A CPS question

Could a bad CPS cause a rough idle condition? I am thinking of changing the cps to see if it effects my occasionaly low lumpy idle........ Does this make sense ?????

It is a good idea to have an extra CPS in the glove box just in case, but as Leader said it won't help with the idle problem. Stop at AZ and get them to read the codes. Maybe something will show up. A lot of us have the problem. I just live with it. A bad CPS will case the engine to cut out.

i'm still very new to the diesel scene but learning as i go. i had a problem with my idle acting up and so after reading here and TDS and TDG i learned the ICP was casuing my problem. i replaced it after finding one still in the Ford packagin on ebay for $50 and it seemed to have fixed it 4 weeks and going. now it idles just as smooth if not smoother than my dads '06 6.0L

Next time the idle fluctuates like that, unplug the icp sensor. If the idle smooths out, that is your problem.

Ok I am learning the cps will stay and a back up cps will be in the glove box. So what is an ICP and where is it located? Next time I get the rough idle I will discconect it and see what happens........ Appreciate the help ,please keep it coming.... Thanks Jack

ICP if I'm correct is on the left front head of the engine after you open your fuel filter cover.....

I was having problems with mine, actually 2 problems, I had an injector wiring harness issue under the valve cover, took care of the hammering noise on my number six cylinder but still had a looped idle, I unplugged it and the idle smoothed out. I then hooked it up to a genises scanner by OTC if I recall, that thing is the cats meow, it was reading perfect numbers but then I was getting spikes from the sensor, to fast for the ECM to pick up and set a CEL I supose, the highest spike I had was 33,000psi oil presure in my heads at idle to the injectors when I had it set up on a gragh.
