Had the truck (1970 f250) out for a spin this morning and it quit running as if it had run out of gas. I knew I had at least 10 gallons in the tank. I noticed alot of rust/dirt particles in the fuel filter. I put filled her up with new gas and she runs great. My concern is that there is 10 gallons worth of dirty gas in the tank. My question is: Should I flush the tank or replace the tank? What is easier/cheaper?
I was goin to have my tank flushed and sealed, but the service man said I could buy a new tank for cheaper. Turned out he was right . I bought a new tank from National Parts Depot for 89.00
Yes it's possible for a beginner to swap out the tank. Have the new there first. I removed my seat just to make it easier for me. Siphon all the gas you can get out of it. Disconnect your positive battery cable from the battery. Remove the filler neck. Unbolt the tank. Undo the gas lines. Remove tank. Put the new one back in the truck in reverse order of the directions. I filtered about 5 gallons of gas thru a towel fold twice and did it 3 times and it looked clean enough to reuse which I did. Good luck

If your truck has the evaporative charcoal canister, make sure the vent line is not plugged. I had a similar issue where the truck would "run out of gas" at 1/2 of a tank. Turned out the vent line was plugged and when the fuel got down halfway the pump couldn't suck any more fuel.
If you don't have the evaporative canister, make sure your vented gas cap is functioning.
There filler necks are different for evaporative and non-evaporative trucks. One accepts a vented cap, one does not.
