Weed? There's nothing in Weed, except a nice close-up view of Mt. Shasta. In Redding you can plan on it being swelteringly hot so you may want to look into a trip to one of the nearby lakes (Shasta or Whiskeytown) and/or a trip to the WaterWorks waterslide park. Shasta Caverns on Lake Shasta is cool (literally!) very interesting tour and a comfortable 60º or so inside.
Past resident of medford and Crescent City. When are the salmon running. Oregon Caves or Crater lake are good 'visit spots' too. Driven thru any Redwoods lately ?
Tiger Dan you say "swelteringly hot" it was 117 degrees F here today.
I most likely won't get to Weed, however there are not too many details about this trip, just 3 aircraft 1 mechanic. That equals not good in the EMS business.
Unfortunately, Avenue of the Giants is way more than his 1/2 hour limit from Redding. More like about 3 hours over to Eureka and down 101. Nice thought though, Ben. And a heck of a lot cooler over there!
And I've moved this thread to the No. Calif. chapter forum, a little more appropriate place for it.
ON EDIT: Oops, now (too late!) I see it was already cross-posted here...boy is my face red! Now we have two threads in here on the same subject! Oh Ray...you wanna fix this?!

Yea, but it's a "dry heat"
Lol, I lived in Phoenix back in the early 80's for 5 years, I remember the dog-days of 120*'s in August.
When I lived just outside Redding, also in the early '80s I worked at a truck rental in Redding. We didn't have a shop and I had to do all my repair and maintenance outside on the asphault, no shade even. This was not fun. Kind of a PITA when you couldn't jack up a truck because the jack would sink into the hot asphault!
I really don't like the heat. I would love to move back up to Tahoe, but I couldn't afford to buy a house there these days.
I lived in Tahoe City, graduated from North Tahoe high school. When we moved there in '73 we paid 69K for a 2400 sq.ft. house on an acre, bought the lot next door for 12K and sold the whole deal 6 years later for 189K. The house alone is worth close to a million today...
Of all the places I've lived around this state, I think I liked Tahoe the best.
