Hi and thanks for all the respones to my last message. Anyway i have my new carb on (i am too poor to implement the needed rebuild to 390 that i wanted, but soon i will have enough to do it). The improvment the 600 CFM manual choke edlebrock carb makes on my performance even with the engine being in its latter days is significant and has extended its life. Anyway a new problem has reared its ugly head. The last bar, the one that connects to the carb, of the throttle linkage keep s popping off. I cannot believe that ford expects a little clip to hold it in place, its a joke. ANyway the only soultion i could come up with is cutting off the last 8" of a chevy throttle cable and using a clamp and solder attach it to the rest of the throttle assembly and then use the much more stable and reliable chevy connector to link to the carb. Now i would prefer not to spend 20 bucks on a cheap chevy cable only to cut it up and use a small part and hell, i would prefer NOT to have to rig up a fix that envovles modification. I am sure it my design would work just fine and be quite reliable but I dont like to go rigging up fixes were a much more commonly used meathod works and I like to simply stay FORD and not cros rig parts even ones that would work. SO if you have any ideas PLEASE tell me. Ideas like getting a differnt carb will not be appreciated as they are not helpfull.
THanks
You never mention the year of your truck, but I suspect you have a 67-72 vintage. Those little clips can be had. There are right and left varieties. There is no reason to jerry-rig the throttle linkeage. Before resorting to what you are thinking....I would try to scour some junk-yards for a 390 setup in a truck similar to yours. You should be able to score the right parts you need to make yours work perfect. If you are using an aftermarket carb that will make things a little harder but not impossible. There is nothing like the right part to cure a problem.

Yea its an after market carb, edlebrock. It makes my truck 1971 F250 4x4 run much better but the action of the throttle causes the damn clip to pop off. The action requires the throttle rod to actuate in a way that causes the clip to come off. A new clip can be easily had but.. any ideas?
By re-align i suppose you mean bend the throttle rod. My throttle line from pedal to carb is of a curious design. Its interlinking rods and levers. Would it be possible to simply remove the lever and rod system and replace it with a cable system or would this be inadvisable. BTW the rod does want to rotate and move when actuating thus poping off the clip.
If I understand yuor problem when the trottle rod is actuated it forces the clip to pop off because it is binding against the throttle lever on the carb. You might be able to bend the last 3/4" of the rod so that it approaches the carb at a sharp angle. That might allow enough clearance for the clip. I don't see any problem trying a later model accelerator set-up from a 73-79. That might be adaptable to your carb and will eliminate the multi-linkage set-up that is original to your truck.
