axle changes?

were the front axles changed on the f-250's in 96 and/or 97? i've heard, but i'm not really sure, that the crew cabs and single cabs came with the solid axle, and the ext. cabs came with the twin i-beams. any help would be appreciated, thanks.

I'm pretty sure that the twin ibeam setup were abandoned when the f150 was introduced. The 100 was the last to use them. This was way b4 '96.

um, no, not hardly. All the 2wd trucks, F-150 through F-350 had twin I Beam 80-96 (as did the E-series vans). In the 4WD trucks the 1/2ton to 1 ton F-series had Twin Traction Beam (TTB) 1980-85. Then right around there (85/86) they began putting the Dana 60 solid front axle with leaf springs (some were kingpin, some were balljoint) under the 1 ton again. The F-150's had a Dana 44 TTB setup with coil springs, while the F-250s had a Dana 44HD TTB, and then eventually a Dana 50 TTB, both with leafsprings. The F-250 for 1996/97, if we are talking the HD version/old body style, should have a Dana 50 TTB with leafsprings, and the rear axle should be a Sterling 10.25".

huh well I'm dead wrong again. Sorry about that. I thought that was the reason for going to the 150, different suspension. Go with rotgrub on this one.
