I discovered a small rust booger in the dog leg where the topper meets the front cab. I think to repair it properly the top has to come off. Is this a hard job and are seals still available. ANd has any one found a way to repair this without removing the top?
You have a Bronco and you have NEVER removed the top? Its one of the reasons for having a Bronco in the first place if you ask me. Why on earth... nevermind... to each his own but anyhow, the procedure for removing the top can be found in the FAQ thread at the top of the forum... the link directly to the FAQ's in in my signature below.
Hey give me a break. Yeah I have a electronic shop manual and it gives step by step instructions also. But the manual is for a perfect world scenario. And if you read the whole post I don't want to take it off if I don't have to. I want to fix a rust spot in the dog leg where the top meets the cab before it grows. This is the only rust on the body. What I want to know, from someone who has done it is it an easy task or not?
i've had this problem with rust before. u are better off to raise the top to make sure u get all the rust. so here is what u need to do in a nut shell. if this is gonna be a 1 man operation u need to take the bolts off that are under the trim, if i remember correctly there are 13 of them put the rear window down & get inside & stand up with your back against the fiberglass top towards the front & lift it up with your knees. once the top is up put a couple of chunks of 4x4's wrapped with old rags or towels. once done do everything in reverse. hope this helps. good luck bbwrench
Well the procedure for COMPLETELY removing the top WILL yield the necessary information for taking it PART-WAY back so you can inspect the rusted section. But since knowing how to remove it completely isn't necessary, then why bother reading up on the procedure at all? I mean the process for taking the top off couldn't possibly answer the question about how to only take it part-way off... otherwise why would I have posted the answer that I gave in the first place? Silly me.
