I have a 1968 Ford F100 and I got a new harness from a 1971 Ford F100 that had no engine in it. It has a Carb. Throttle Solenoid connector. What is a Carb. Throttle Solenoid? What does the wire going to it do?
Depending on the year and the equipment, it could do several things. The most common is it's hooked with the air conditioning compressor. When the air conditioning turned on, it raised the idle speed up to make it work better.
It was also sometimes used as a emissions device. Sometimes they had problems with the engine running on when the key was turned off. The solenoid would let the throttle come completely closed when the key was turned off to help avoid that problem.
It looks like a round cylinder with a plunger sticking out. It's mounted on the driver's side of the carb, and the plunger kicks out and moves the throttle open a little bit more to raise the idle speed when 12 volts is applied to the terminal.
