Now my extra info: Have someone weld in a drain hole/plug in that tank for any future need to drain the tank.
This way.. you can add a little gas ....rock the truck back and forth...drain thr tank...repeat as many times as it takes.
Also, add some (couple of pints) Dexron II Transmission fluid to 1/2 tank of fuel.... drive it ...drain the tank one more time.Replenish with fresh fuel.
My vote is for buying a new tank. When I got my truck it had been sitting for a while too. Both tanks had a TON of rust and fuel goo in them. I tried having the rear "boiled" out by a radiator shop, but the metal was so thin in spots that it made holes form in the tank from the cleaning process. I bought a new tank from autozone for $99.99. I would have paid $50.00 for the cleaning, I really shouldn't have even bothered trying to clean it.
And yes, they're fun to change. Especially if it's got a good half tank of fuel/water in it, but you don't realize it until you've taken the nuts off, because the sending unit isn't working, and the guage was showing empty. Makes you move pretty fast to get more blocks of wood to stick under it.
With the time and money involved in cleaning a tank, with the possiblity of it still having sediment in the end, I'm gonna let the truck sit until I've got the cash for a new fuel tank. Is it a 19 gallon? I checked the BroncoGraveyard and found a plastic one (sweet!!) that's a 19 gallon tank. I thought mine was smaller, but maybe not?
