So.... Last week I took my 03 EX into the dealership for extreme lack of power when cold. Drop it off at 7 AM, by 2 PM same day the service writer calls me up and tells me that they found a bad injector, the turbo was sticking, and they replaced both. He asked me if they could keep it overnight to cold soak it and make sure the problem was knicked. Next day noon rolls around, and I get a phone call from the service writer that says they found 3 more bad injectors, something about a poor spray pattern. Those too were replaced. Cold drivability is improved, I'm happy, the're happy. I took the ex to Reno from Sacramento and on the way back coming up the grade I noticed a hell of a lot of black smoke coming from the tailpipe. The more lean into the throttle the more smoke I get. I drive up to tahoe often and it has never done this before. Taking off from a stop it had nooooo power and lots of black smoke. The only good part about it was when I passed a Toyota hybrid on the grade, I couldn't resist flooring it and belching out a cloud of soot into his open window...anyway...once I got back to the valley, went back to normal with very little smoke. Did they fix it wrong or is the fact that everything is fixed now its dumping too much fuel at altitude, if that makes any sense. Think I should take it back to the dealership? Are egt's a problem with excess fuel? If you need any info off the service slip let me know. Thanks for any imput.
rosco,
FWIW- I have found (when on roadtrips) a lot of black smoke when I step on it hard after extended periods of highway cruising. However, the loss of power that you mentioned may indicate some type of problem. Very difficult to say although it sounds like your dealer/service dept is working with you to resolve your issues...
This wasn't the usual "desooting" . It's a continuous discharge of black smoke when you're under a load. It got the latest remap back in Febuary so I don't think thats the issue. I also ran two different loads of fuel through so its not a poor fuel issue. I'll probably just end up taking it in. Hopefully I can get these bugs worked out...
