I have had my 2005 for almost a year now. My truck will start to vibrate around 45 mph unloaded. Once I hit 80 mph, the vibration is not there anymore. When I have my truck loaded with a trailer, the vibration is not as bad but is still there once I hit 80. Now, The only reason that Ikeep mentioning 80mph is because I amjust curious as to when the vibration will stop. I have had it back to the dealership and they told me that is was my tire balancing( this was when I put 305/55/20 tires on it). I than sold those tires and went back to the factories. Vibration still there. I have just recently put 295/75/17 on. I visited a different dealership about the problem. They told me that it was my tire balancing until I told them about towing a trailer. They than said it could be a driveline problem. I am just wondering if anyome is having this problem with their truck and what could be done to fix it.
Oh my....
This seems to be one of the more popular "longer thread topics"...
I'm sure a few members oughta chime in here shortly.
You may also want run a search on ... Vibration, shudder, high-speed vibration and other combinations.
There should be "few" threads that were previously started...
It sounds like it would first be the tires and wheels need to be balanced, but if that has already been done than you might want to have the driveline or the rearend checked out. Also make sure the front end is all balanced.
It could be the parking brake hanging up, this has caused a vibration problem for many f-150 owners.
You can check to see if the drum is hot to the touch however this may be hard to judge given that the disc and drum are integral.
Probably the best way would be to remove the rear wheel and caliper, then that disc should come off easy, if it doesn't it's probably because those shoes are tight against the drum... worth a look, just a process of elimination. good luck
Just got mine back from dealer... new drive shaft, and some sort of vibration dampner installed on the rear frame. smooth as glass again. mine vibed at 45 and real good at 70
I had steering wheel nibble and vibration in my '05 F150 Lariat. I took it a Goodyear dealership that had some new balancing equipment and the personnel trained to use it. My truck is smooth as glass now. It totally changed my outlook on owning the truck.
