Has any one converted their electronic 4x4 to a manual shift and/or can give me the issues that would be invloved in doing so?
I am not having problems but would like to have the benifit of the netural function of the manual shift and the ability to tow the truck with all four wheels on the ground.
From the way it looks it seems to be a simple conversion so any input would be appreciated.
I think I would explore putting Warn Manual hubs on and getting rid of the vacuum hub system 1st. Gives 90% of the bene of manual w/o having to change the xfr case. Most of the failures I've seen on this system have been in the hubs & not the xfr case. (although the solenoid/motor on the electric transfer case does seem to fail when you need it most)
If you want to change the xfr case here's the start of the list of what you'll need:
For starters your going to have to cut a hole in the cab floor & get the blank plug to cover where the electric selector switch is + Floor Cover & shifter Boot.
There will be at least 1 electrical item to take care of: 4H to 4low shift requires trans to be in N - not sure how this is would be handled in the Auto to Man conversion.
