Have a 96 F350 4x4 Crew and going to install some Monroe Reflex shocks.. Have never installed shocks that come with straps and not sure what will happen when I cut them.
Have looked in the archives and can't find much on this.. Have heard that they expand slowly and if I keep the bottom bolt in my hand, when I cut the strap I can guide the shock into the bottom bracket and quickly slide the bolt through. Or.. I've read that you just cut the straps and use a jack to compress them again to get the both through.. This sounds like a pain..
Anybody have some words of wisdom?
Thx,
Brian

Just get 1 end in place and secured, then cut strap and let it expand until its in place then secure. You can compress them by hand, just might be a little harder depending on the internal valving.
I just put mine on today. My old ones had the strap but I cut it off and just compressed it to put it on.My new shocks are edelbrock IAS. One strap broke and it was almost impossoble to compress that thing to get it on.I guess it just depends on how stiff the shock is.
The edelbrock IAS has a lot different valving inside than the ones they replaced vman. This is to control the cycling of the spring and to keep the tire on the ground better. You can get shocks in all sorts of biases from 50/50 to 30/70, depending on your use of the vehicle and the shock maker.
