I have an 89 f250 xlt lariat. Recently had to put a new motor, new transmission, new driveshaft into the truck. Everything was going great until I pulled up to work one day went inside for about 20 minutes maybe half an hour when my boss told me I better go check on my truck cause it looked to him like it was on fire! Mechanic says it looks like the wire from the starter solenoid to the alternetor was loose and probably sparking and ended up catching something on fire. I now need a whole mess of wires, egr valve, alternator, etc. Long story short the thousands it has cost me are leaving me a little low in the cash flow dep't. Anybody know a good place to find good inexpensive parts... I've tried all the junkyards around here (philly area PA) and no luck. Any help is appreciated and thanks in advance. btw 351 windsor fuel injected

Not sure why you would need an EGR valve but this is a common problem with the 2G Alternator. The fuse link at the starter solenoid should have burned up unless somebody bypassed the fuse link there.
As nobody would do that you need a new Fuse Link to put on the starter solenoid end and a new alternator should come with the plug to put on the other end.
You have two 10GA wires running from the alternator plug to the load split splice.
At the load split you have a plug for power to the Fuse Box, Headlights, Amp gauge and Ignition.
Then you have one 10GA wire doubled back on its self, this is your shunt.
After the shunt you have a splice for the Fuse Link, Amp Gauge and "A" to the Alternator.
Then of course after the fuse link it hooks to starter solenoid.
I just went through all of this with an 88 Van.
If you need a diagram for all of this let me know and I will post it.

what is this fuse link and where can it be found. is it that plastic chunk that hooks to the starter solenoid by the battery? or is that just simply to keep thinks organized?
if that is, infact, the fuse link, i am a bit embarrassed to admit that i didn't realize that was there when i ran new wire from the battery to the solenoid to the starter...i probably bypassed it.
