Not yet, but I suppose it's coming one day.
We old farts still do print outs but that will change.
I was speaking to a young guy and asked where his printer was. He said " I don't do printouts", like it was something weird and ancient.
One is a Compaq "internet appliance", which started off as an MSN appliance, but I loaded a severely stripped down version of linux on it with something called "VNC". VNC allows you to remotely connect to other computers, running the VNC server program. So, with this "terminal" I can access my linux servers as well as my windows servers, which are located in the basement. Gives me in-garage access to email, the web, autocad, visio, and most importantly, Mitchell.
The other computer runs DOS, and "TurboCNC" for my almost done homemade CNC machine. It's a dedicated PC since it has to run DOS.
Yeah, I have it networked wirelessly to my other computers so I play music through it, or put a cd in.. we also have a pretty bad *** sound system out there. I'll also look up stuff on here or other sites when I'm having trouble working on my vehicle.
Also have a fridge and a pellet stove.. wanting to put AC in and definetly needs a TV!
I just lug my laptop out there when I need it for looking up stuff, tuning, running diagnostic programs, etc. I have considered building a little self contained roll-around that would be dedicated for that purpose but I haven't the space for it in my current garage.
I have an older hp laptop that my wife used to use. It got very slow so she just bought a new one. It's not that old I guess, it came with XP. I brought it downstairs and deleted about 90% of the crap she had on it and it works great now. WiFi to my upstairs cable connection. I use it for email, Word and internet. I print to the printer upstairs.
I haven't got one in my shop but for you guys that do(or just know a bit about computers) I would like to know how to get a radio station via the internet to play in my shop which is 150+ feet from my computer. Is it a matter of just running some speaker wire or would I need some serious hardware to get the job done?(Sorry to hijack the thread)
Yep sure do! Along with a stereo, TV, and fridge always stocked w/soda, water and of course beer. Getting ready to run a line for Dish Network for the TV in the garage. It's great all the comforts of home in the garage.

I'd give him a real fast education. It is cheaper to replace paper than a lap top or forgetting torque specs etc. Of course perhaps he is a tea-totaler with a photographic memory!!!!
