Anyone ever had a Kenne Bell supercharger on their Bronco? I have a 90 5.8 (351) and would like to get about a hunded more horsepower without tearing into the motor and keeping it smog legal in Kalifornia. Appreciate any info, thanks, Fleet Bronco.
I have not seen a KB on a 5.8, but I have put both the powerdyne and the paxton on my 95 with 5.8. For the money, ease of installation, weight, and intake temperature, I like the powerdyne the best. BTW, I tried FSB . com and all it took me to was CNNMoney . com . What site are you referring to , K?
try pickle performance in dayton ohio ill try to get the info from a friend exactly how to get ahold of them he put a powerdine on his lightning 5.8 but does all kinds of stuff.
yea ive been shutdown a few times, now they just remove my post and not say a word hehe.
supercharging is cool for sure, but bolting one on a motor that has more then 100k miles is asking for possible carnage. why are you wanting this power, what do you use your rig for . if you can give us some more feedback we could probably steer you in a good direction, get the same power if not more and cost the same if not less
we put a powerdine on a 1993 lightning with 160 ,000 miles all orriginal this truck is rite and gets 17 mpg city and then we put a set of ford aluminum motorsport heads on it /a 5.0 roller cam and 1.6 rockers blam!!!! cant wait to see what it does out to national trales race way. and im still trying to get the info on pickle performance .
Thanks for all the replys. The 351 motor in my 90 Bronco has an easy (had never been offroad until I bought it) 44,000 miles on it. I want more low end power and I know the KenneBell screw type superchargers will do that, they bolt on in place of the intake and only require a longer belt, they look almost factory, I also know they are a bit pricey around 3K but other than a lot of parts and teardown I don't think I can get 100 California smog legal horsepower any other way. Would sure like to hear from anyone that has had one on a 5.8 or even a 5.0 Thank you all, Fleet Bronco.
I tried the Paxton first, because I always wanted one on my 66 Mustang Convertible, to give it a nostolgic pep, ( Some shelbys came with them as an option) so I saved up and bought one for the Bronco to test the system out. The Paxton runs HOT. I guess I got into it a bit, but thats what they are for, right? I ended up burning up the bearings in a year. The intake temps were also very hot, defeating the cold air intake theory. So, the option was to spend about $750 plus shipping, or try a different route. So, After more research, I bought a powerdyne unit, already rebuilt. They run on a dry belt system, have significantly cooler air discharge, are lighter, and mount up in about 1/4 the time of the paxton. They dont require you to reroute the power steering, A/C lines, A/C compressor, or anything.
BTW, you can find plenty of new and used and rebuilt units on ebay for less than 1/2 the cost of retail. Just do some research, and ask questions of the seller.
Have fun!
