Can someone please tell me if a '92 5.0L Thunderbird engine is same block as '76 302? Will it fit in place of 302 in '76 Bronco and bolt up to C-4 Transmission?
Thanks
In that sense, yes. The bolt pattern is the same. The main difference is roller cam, which is a little different casting internally. Also, the '92 has an imbalance of 50 oz. while the '76 has a 28 oz. imbalance. That means you can't use the flexplate from the '76 on the '92 unless you have it (the flexplate) rebalanced. You'll need to find a 5.0 (not 351W) flexplate that's 1981 or newer to match the 50 oz. imbalance of your '92.
That's correct. The AOD was readily available behind the post-'81/50 oz. imbalance 302 (or 5.0 if you will) and as Kemical says, shares the same torque converter bolt pattern with the C4 so it's the one you should look for. (A flexplate from a 351W won't work because it stayed with the 28 oz. imbalance throughout its life.)
