Filter & Fluild changing on Trany

Filter & Fluild changing on Trany
How hard is it for a guy to change his Transmission fluid & filter? I know there is no dipstick for the trany, do I need to take it to a dealer to have them both changed?

Its pretty easy, however its messy as well. Your local auto parts store should have the pan gasket and filter for your transmission as well as the fluid. Look in the owners manual to verify whether you need Mercon or Mercon V. Also, you would be wise to add a drain plug to the transmission pan while you are in there. I added one in mine since I was sick of making a huge mess to change tranny fluid.
Your best bet is to pick up a hanes or chiltons manual as they will tell you exactly how to change the fluid. They have diagrams and pictures that will make it much easier.

Unfortunately Ford had another "better idea" starting with the 02's
Now theres no pan to drop, no filter to change & no dip stick tube to add fresh ATF.
